VRC gate takings to go to bushfire relief
The Victoria Racing Club (VRC) will donate all gate takings from its upcoming January race meetings to bushfire relief.
Entrance proceeds from Chester Manifold Stakes Day on January 11 and January Twilight Raceday on January 18 will go to the Bushfire Disaster Appeal.
Fire fighters and their families will receive free entry to Flemington Racecourse on both racedays and race names on January Twilight Raceday will honour and recognise the incredible work of firefighters, emergency services workers and volunteers who have sought to protect and provide for those affected by bushfire.
VRC Chief Executive Officer Neil Wilson said the Club was heartbroken to see the destruction caused by fires across Australia. “Like many I have spent the summer watching the devastation the fires have caused for many communities across Australia,” Mr Wilson said. “I know racegoers, including VRC Members, will want to do all they can to support those in fire zones and the firefighters who serve those regions so tirelessly. We are donating gate takings from our two upcoming race meetings and we are working on other initiatives alongside the broader racing industry that will be announced in due course.”
