ST KILDA FILM FESTIVAL ANNOUNCE NEW DIRECTOR
St Kilda Film Festival is pleased to announce the appointment of Richard Sowada as Festival Director for 2020.
Richard is a highly respected film festival director, programmer and curator who brings over two decades’ experience in the screen culture sector.
Richard founded the Revelation Perth International Film Festival in 1997 and has been a key player in the development of screen culture in Western Australia and continues to be actively involved in the festival. Richard has built a considerable reputation as an innovative film curator and vocal advocate of screen culture activity in Australia.
From 2006 until 2015, Richard was Head of Film Programs at the country’s leading screen culture organisation, the Australian Centre for the Moving Image (ACMI) during which time he sat on the ACMI Executive team and programmed some of the institute’s most successful film programs.
Most recently, Richard has been responsible for the American Essentials national touring film program for Palace Cinemas, the XR:WA conference and expo, and the Melbourne Design Week Film Festival.
Richard Sowada said he is honoured to be directing the 2020 St Kilda Film Festival. “St Kilda Film Festival’s international standing, its advocacy for screen artists working with short form content, its individual character and its utterly dedicated team, means I’m in for a year of thrills – and I hope that translates to the audience experience!”
“One of the special and important things about SKFF is its Oscar qualifying status” adds Richard, “So for filmmakers the current call for entries is a mainline to our program and potentially the international stage. We want your film!”
St Kilda Film Festival is accepting film submissions via FilmFreeway. Entry costs $22 USD (earlybird rate until 13 December) and $30 USD after this date, closing 20 January. For further details and to apply, go to stkildafilmfestival.com.au.
The St Kilda Film Festival is proudly produced and presented by the City of Port Phillip.
