Single Release: Rackett – Machinations
Chasing a drive for evolution, RACKETT returns with a vibrant new single in ‘Machinations’ – the first step into the spotlight shining on a new musical chapter. Announcing new Australian dates, as well as a debut tour of Japan, RACKETT is ready to introduce fans to some hectic new sounds.
Packing the eccentricity and punk attitude of artists including Robyn and CSS, with the glitchy electro-rock that has made bands like the Yeah Yeah Yeahs so beloved with indie and rock fans alike, the new sound from RACKETT is bright and fresh. As musician Rebecca Callander navigates a wild and unrestrained sonic terrain, ‘Machinations’ is a strong statement of intent. RACKETT is redefined and ready to thrive.
‘Machinations’ came to life in Sydney, with Callander working closely with longtime collaborator, Dave Hammer (Jeffe, Washington, Lime Cordiale, Thundamentals) . Mastered by Chris Gehringer (St. Vincent, Rihanna), ‘Machinations’ came to fruition at the hands of some of the best. “RACKETT has always been evolving. Amidst the moving parts, one thing has always been consistent, my love of music and my desire to connect with others. It’s taken a lot of resistance to stay off stage and commit to redefining RACKETT and I’m so pumped to finally share this.” Rebecca Callander
Moving forward with the RACKETT project as a solo artist puts Callander’s evolution as a creative front and centre more than ever before. Throwing herself headfirst into bright and vibrant future-punk sonic territory, RACKETT is all about thriving in the chaotic unknown. The first of many releases to come from RACKETT over the next year, the single is a snapshot of the musician’s innate desire to chase change and creative challenge. “[‘Machinations’] means to create a sense of delusion, a scheme. The chorus, “Out of my mind, imaginations got me out running wild, remember that time I fell out of my mind, into machinations,” summarises a feeling of grand delusion. I lost my mind, devising a plot to move forward.” Rebecca Callander
The last few years have seen RACKETT emerge and become established as one of Sydney’s premier live groups. Garnering attention off the back of their debut EP Ready Or Not in 2017 and then in 2018 with the impactful single ‘Prey’, for captivating music and a bombastic live show to match, RACKETT’s wild ride continued to play out on stages across the country. Dominating as headliner and festival favourite at events including Lost Paradise, Groovin The Moo, Big Pineapple Festival and Jack River’s Electric Lady Festival, while also being selected by The Rubens as finalists of their EXTRA SUPPORT YouTube competition, the power of RACKETT’s sound and presence was impactful from the start.
Now, as Callander looks down the barrel of a brand new chapter of RACKETT’s journey with anticipation at fever pitch, in the best possible sense. Heading to Japan for the first time this October, RACKETT’s pilgrimage to the centre of alternative, forward-thinking culture, technology and fashion is one that has been a long time coming. “I needed to see neon. I needed to go to a place as close to what I imagined the music to be; quirky, compact energy. I want to show my music where it was born. In my mind, there is a neon-lit, digital future with synthetic fruit and I think Japan is the closest place to that.” Rebecca Callander
