2019 LEXUS MELBOURNE CUP PRIZE MONEY AND TOUR DESTINATIONS REVEALED

In an exciting day in the 158 year history of the Melbourne Cup, Victoria Racing Club (VRC) Chairman Amanda Elliott officially announced the increase in prizemoney for the Lexus Melbourne Cup and revealed the record number of destinations for the 2019 Lexus Melbourne Cup Tour.

A star-studded crowd was on hand for the announcement, including the first female jockey to win the iconic race, Michelle Payne, three-time Melbourne Cup-winning jockey Damien Oliver and Lexus Ambassador Megan Gale, who made a spectacular entrance carrying the $200,000 trophy.

This year also marks 100 years of the iconic three-handled design of the Melbourne Cup – Australia’s most celebrated sporting trophy. The first of this design, the 1919 Melbourne Cup trophy, rarely seen in public, made a grand entrance at the event.

Following a record number of submissions, 39 destinations were unveiled for the Melbourne Cup Tour, with the iconic trophy even visiting the world-famous Ramsay Street where it will make a pit-stop to the set of Neighbours. Cast members Tim Robards and April Rose Pengilly were on hand at the launch to celebrate the exciting inclusion.
