NOMINATIONS ANNOUNCED

The nominations for the 25th annual Screen Actors Guild Awards were unveiled recently. A Star Is Born leads the SAG Awards film nominees with a total of four, including for best ensemble, best actor for Bradley Cooper, best actress for Lady Gaga and best supporting actor for Sam Elliott.

BlacKkKlansman and The Favourite followed with three nominations each. BlacKkKlansman also will compete for best ensemble alongside A Star Is Born, Black Panther, Bohemian Rhapsody and Crazy Rich Asians.

On the TV side, The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel and Ozark lead with four nominations apiece, followed by Barry, GLOW, The Handmaid’s Tale and The Kominsky Method with three mentions each.

Vying for best drama series ensemble are The Americans, Better Call Saul, Handmaid’s Tale, Ozark and This Is Us. Best comedy series ensemble honours will be a competition among Atlanta, Barry, GLOW, Kominsky Method and Marvelous Mrs. Maisel.

Meanwhile, several actors earned more than one nomination for their individual performances and as part of an ensemble, but three earned two nods for their solo performances: Amy Adams (Sharp Objects, Vice), Emma Stone (The Favourite, Maniac) and Emily Blunt (Mary Poppins Returns, A Quiet Place).

Awkwafina (Crazy Rich Asians, Ocean’s Eight) and Laverne Cox (Orange Is the New Black, the upcoming Bad Hair) announced the nominees at the Pacific Design Center in West Hollywood. Also on hand was SAG-AFTRA president Gabrielle Carteris.

Before that announcement, SAG Awards committee chair JoBeth Williams and committee member Elizabeth McLaughlin announced this year’s stunt ensemble action performance nominees.

The  25th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards will air live on TNT and TBS at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT on Jan. 27.

SAG Awards organizers announced later in the day that Megan Mullally would serve as the show’s second-ever host, following in the footsteps of Kristen Bell last year.
