New video for Merpire

Melbourne-via-Sydney artist Merpire has unveiled a breathtaking live video of ‘Invitation’ in a stripped-back acoustic take of the epic new single. Filmed at Northcote’s Tamale Studios in front of a transfixed audience and roaring fire, the video shows off Merpire’s raw talent and offers an exciting glimpse of her mesmerising live show, that she’ll be taking on the road this winter in support of her new EP Endless Chatter out on Friday 22 June.

In a recent Amrap x Tonedeaf guest selector series, Steph Liong of Sydney’s radio 2SER handpicked the single to showcase Merpire as one of her top 6 Australian artists of the week. Lifted from her forthcoming EP Endless Chatter, ‘Invitation’ is a stunning combination of wistful harmonies and moody guitars, brought to life on the Tamale stage here by her band mates James Seymour and Mimi Gilbert. The single sees Merpireat her most honest and personal yet; it’s a disarming but welcome moment of unadulterated calm compared to the sleek, sharp and synth-washed sounds of her previous releases.

Merpire has garnered acclaim across Melbourne’s indie pop scene for her cunning and charming singles ‘Hauntways’ and ‘Holding Breath’, with the first earning the number one spot on the triple j unearthed pop chart, and the latter being added to Spotify’s New Music Friday playlist and in-store rotation at fashion giant H&M. Featuring all three accomplished singles and more, Endless Chatter was recorded with Andy Bull, Luke Davison (The Preatures) and Alex Bennison (Sans Parents, Megan Washington, Hungry Kids of Hungary). Merpire is gearing up to celebrate the release with a substantial run of live shows across the east coast of the country this Winter.

With so many opportunities to catch Merpire in the coming months there’s no excuse for missing out on seeing this remarkable rising talent.
